Kanethara marine solutions offers ship design, building, and repair services for the marine and offshore industry

Technology has brought about a fundamental change in the ship design, building, and maintenance in terms of substantial cost and time reductions and improved robustness, navigation, safety, and communication. Recent technological advancements in the marine engineering have completely transformed the cruise landscape and have led to the emergence of Mega Cruise Ships with unbelievable onboarding experiences, out-sizing the conventional models. The Freedom Ship, an incredible and self-sufficient floating city with a design length of 4,500 feet, a width of 750 feet, and a height of 350 feet is the finest example of technological marvels till date. Kanethara Marine Solutions has been working closely with Freedom Cruiseline International, a renowned concept developer of the ‘City at Sea’ on the design and construction of Freedom Ship to turn the idea of the world’s largest vessel ever built in the history of mankind into a reality.

Realizing the Concept of ‘City at Sea’
Kanethara Marine Solutions offers ship design, building, and repair services for the marine and offshore industry. Specialized in EPC contracts for marine piping, marine HVAC, machinery and heavy steel works, the company has been delivering state-of-the-art marine engineering services to its clientele across the globe. Freedom Cruiseline International has partnered with Kanethara Marine Solutions to develop Freedom Ship, the biggest cruise ship in the world that would provide a unique lifestyle for people to work, live, and travel. The Freedom Ship is a 1990's dream project which was conceptualized by Norman Nixon, an American engineer from Sarasota, Florida. But the project could not materialize due to lack of technology to build such an advanced cruise ship. “We had approached the Freedom Cruiseline International in 2012 to offer services for the design and construction of the Freedom Ship. After deliberate discussions, Kanethara Marine was chosen as a partner for the construction of the prestigious cruise ship. In 2015, a sample design of the ship was given and later in 2016 we gave the final design plan which was accepted by the Freedom Cruiseline International. In 2017 at a press-meet in Cochin, around 25- 30 executives of Freedom Cruiseline International and Kanethara Marine together launched the design of the Freedom Ship,” informs Vigil Kanethara, Managing Director, Kanethara Marine Solutions.

Freedom Ship: A Floating Structure with Permanent Residential and Commercial Facilities
The design concept of the Freedom Ship includes a mobile city providing luxurious and modern lifestyle with residential and office space, international shopping mall, library, schools, advanced hospital, retail and wholesale shops, banks, hotels, restaurants, entertainment facilities, casinos, warehouses along with light manufacturing and assembly enterprises. “The Freedom Ship project would cost around 20 billion USD as per the recent estimates. It was quite challenging for us to take up such a massive project and invest our time and energy into it as it had no adequate funds to carry out the plan forward. So, we have designed the Freedom Ship by keeping every commercial aspect in mind to help investors improve their ROI. The commercial space aboard the ship will provide global business community an unparalleled atmosphere to conduct their business with continuous delivery of goods from the offshore into the
ship. The permanent residential and commercial space units are available for sale on our website; however, since the construction of the ship has not begun the prices of the units are subject to change. We are also planning to raise funds for the construction of the ship through equity financing in which the partner would offer their products, solutions or any other service and would get a specific share in return for their contribution. The Freedom Ship provides partners with a global platform to showcase their products and services to the world,” informs Vigil Kanethara. Currently, Freedom Cruiseline International is focusing on shipyards, maritime design companies, steel and power plants and entertainment entities as initial joint venture partners to commence the construction of the mega cruise ship.

VIGIL CRUISEVOY LIMITED: Venturing into Cruise Operations
Vigil Kanethara in association with Freedom Cruiseline International has recently ventured into the operations of cruise vessels in Turkey and Europe area through a company named VIGIL CRUISEVOY LIMITED. Kanethara Marine has designed cruise ships for the clients from London and Italy with around 5000 passenger capacity and with 1500 office units and 1500 residential apartments. “We intend to make the Freedom Ship under ‘Make in India’ and are planning to start the construction of the ship by 2020. We are in discussions with Ministry of Shipping of the Government of India about the Freedom Ship project and the Government is very keen to offer some sort of subsidies and tax incentives for the project under Make in India initiative as the project can employ around 10 thousand people for the construction of the ship. The project also offers employment for 15 thousand crew onboard thereby creating employment opportunities for around 25 thousand people,” highlights Vigil Kanethara.

“Specialized in EPC contracts for marine piping, marine HVAC, machinery and heavy steel works, kanethara marine solutions has been delivering state-of-the-art marine engineering services to its clientele across the globe”

Training Future Engineers in the Marine Industry
Kanethara Marine Solutions maintains close association with major shipyards, marine suppliers, steel manufacturers and marine consultants around the world to cater to the needs of shipping industry. Currently the company is involved in the research, design, development and testing of the large floating vessels. The company is also planning to set-up a testing lab to train young aspiring engineers and tradesmen for the development of new floating city designs in future.

Creating A Unique Mobile Community With Incredible Lifestyle
Freedom Ship is no less than a modern metropolitan city providing an incredible lifestyle for the residents with all facilities like duty free international shopping mall, transport systems, under water museum, hybrid agricultural park, waste management system, best school system, world-class healthcare etc. Unlike the other cruise ships, the Freedom Ship provides permanent residential, recreational and commercial occupancies creating a unique mobile community by combining the amenities of a modern city with those of the finest resorts in an attractive and secure environment. The mega ship can accommodate 40,000 full time residents, 30,000 daily visitors, 10,000 nightly hotel guests and 20,000 crew members with a total population of 100,000 people always aboard the ship.

The Freedom Ship is named so as it establishes the world's largest duty-free retail shopping mall by creating a commercial community wherein the privately owned and operated on-board enterprises will be able to sell their products and services. The airport located on the top deck of the ship will serve small commercial and private aircrafts capable of carrying 38 to 40 passengers to enable residents fly in and out of the ship. The other transport facilities of the ship include rapid transit systems to move people and goods inside the ship. The school system of the Freedom Ship will provide the world class education to students by combining the best attributes from various school systems around the world. The health care system provides advanced medical facilities for people living aboard the ship with western and eastern medical centres. The Freedom Ship would circumnavigate the globe once in every two years stopping at major port cities and offshore centres enabling people to experience the most exotic islands and remote places in the world that are accessible only by sea.
